On the second mission of the 9th in an attempt to bomb Ijmuiden in Holland using low flying
tactics this plane was lost at 11:51am on 17 May 1943. The flight was forced south of their
intended point of entry after being fired on by flak from a German coastal convoy and flew over
heavily defended Rozenburg island. Continued on to target and as the first flight flew over the
sand dunes a hail of 20mm flak hit the lead marauder piloted by Lt.Col. Robert Stillman, killing
1st Lt. Ellis Resweber, the co-pilot. The plane snap rolled and crashed. Three severely injured
crewmen were dragged from the wreckage by the Germans.
