  On the second mission of the 9th in an attempt to bomb Ijmuiden in Holland using low flying
tactics this plane was lost at 11:52am on 17 May 1943. The flight was forced south of their
intended point of entry after being fired on by flak from a German coastal convoy and flew over
heavily defended Rozenburg island. A mile or two to the south the second flight encountered
heavy flak on landfall. 1st Lt. Vincent Garrambone's plane, leading the second element, could
not maintain control after being hit and crashed into the Maas river, he and three of his crew
survived.
